"Pittsburgh soon May Resemble a City of Dreams" (1900)
Pittsburgh newspaper from 1900 which I found today at the Heinz History Center:

Engineer talks about what he think the future will be like in Pittsburg(h):

"About 50 years from now the wagon will be too slow for the human race, and very much too slow for Pittsburg, where people do things in a hurry. Pneumatic tubes-- that's the solution for the traffic problem. Of course we'll have subways. The people will use them for awhile and then fill them with pneumatic tubes.

The streets themselves will be much wider. Naturally, they will be 10 times cleaner and lined with shade trees... The power which will run everything in 1950 will be electricity. There may be something else, but it won't be coal and natural gas.

It will be a city of big buildings. Practically all of them... will have airship landings on their roofs, and the planes sailing through the air above them will be just as common as automobiles are now.

We might put in a nice big park along the Allegheny, say from about Forty-third street to the Point, and running as far back as Butler street and Penn avenue. The city, of course, will then extend up to where Oakmont is now, perhaps further. Anyway, it will take in Allegheny county. Pittsburg may get reckless and absorb a portion of Westmore land some of these days."

The big leap, moving in with Charlie. "But you're living with us already" said Charlie's roomate Raphael. But now my crap will be living with them, and that's a major step... I suppose. My father took it surprisingly well, advising "you're acting like you're married, I hope that you're ready for that". A steady partnership has changed my lifestyle. In the evenings now I get home after class, do some homework, eat dinner with Charlie, and get to bed eight hours before I need to be up. A Saturday night out is dinner and bowling, getting in before 11, Charlie has to be up early in the morning. This is not what I pictured my college life to be like. I am lame. But that's OK.

I talked to my roomate about moving out, and I can now begin the process of looking for a replacement roomate to sublease. If you know anyone who is looking for housing please let me know. I'm planning to take some pictures of the place and then post on misc.market and around campus. I estimate a good month before I can find someone and move my stuff.

    Artist's Statement
I'm typing my artist statement. Steven King's "On Writing" says that there are two types of writers, those who write quickly then go back and revise and those who attack writing one sentence at a time, revising each and then moving on. I've apparently taken the second approach, here are the scraps of sentences that are growing below my document while I type:
